What can I do with a Community Support Certificate?

Successful completion of this Certificate will set students up in a number of community service related professions and prepare students for entry-level positions in the social and community work fields and undergraduate degrees at any University.

Graduates of this program will have acquired a platform to pursue further academic endeavors and provide them with job roles and opportunities such as child and youth worker, outreach worker, pregnancy worker, addiction worker, newcomer services, shelters, adult care, case management and community access worker.

Program Details

This one-year Community Support Certificate program will provide students with the knowledge and skills to offer safe and competent support to individuals in need. With the opportunity to pursue meaningful and significant differences in the lives of individuals in the public and private sectors.
Some core skills covered include: Interpersonal communication, Receding and Reporting, Introduction to Community Support, Introduction to Indigenous World Views, and Community Service learning.

Admission Requirements

  • Secondary school graduation or equivalent.
  • Alberta Grade 12 English Language and Mathematics completion or successful completion of the General Educational Development (GED) test with a minimum score of 450 in each of the five tests.
  • Students from non-English speaking countries should provide proof of English Proficiency; IELTS with an overall band of 6.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in each band, CELPIP with an overall band of 6 and none less than 6, or a minimum TOEFL score of 78 (CBT), with nothing less than 19 in each band.
